Hafen is a new stepper/ miner that will make you smile when you see it in game. It’s a realistic version of the iron mine with all the realistic sounds and graphics you would expect. I was very interested to see how this game would play out. After downloading it, I loaded up my game and began to explore. The first thing I noticed was that there were many more blocks around that I could pick up. This allowed me to mine more resources from the more hard-to-reach areas.
Another thing I found in the game is that there is no cheats, hacks or anything like that. The game is just as it is explained, which means you will have to work your way through it the proper way. However, you will not be doing any unfair advantage over anybody. In fact, you will be doing a fair bit for yourself too, since all your hard work is going to pay off.
With the basic set up of the mod, you will need to find a mining belt, mine lots of resources and build up a bridge to connect your main structure to the mining belt. This is where the mod starts to get complicated. As you start to dig, you will find veins of metal that are rich in resources. As you mine these out, they become enriched as well.
As you continue to mine the vein and deeper into the ground you will run into a few obstacles. For example, there are spikes that shoot through the ground that explode and can hurt or kill you if you’re not careful. There are also bees. These aren’t really much of a threat, but once they swarm you will need to get some help to take them out quickly. Thankfully the game has a help function that includes videos that walk you through the various situations and show you how to take care of the creatures.
One of the greatest features of the mod is its visual effects. The environment is detailed and realistic and looks very realistic. The music is just as realistic, if not better than the original game. There are also voice clips for all of the characters. There is also a mod menu that lets you do everything from changing the world map, controlling the game’s events, choosing the characters, and more.
I believe the biggest weakness of the mod is that it doesn’t have cheats. The only real cheat that I was able to find was a way to make a player character invisible and able to pass through some doors. However, even if you know someone who is able to get through those doors, I wouldn’t suggest using it in the single player campaign, because the game is not very challenging that way. Regardless, this is a great mod and definitely something to try if you love the idea of Dwarf Fortress. I only had one issue and that was an issue with lag, but other than that this is a great game to play!
