A horror game is a game where you have to kill everything that moves. Horrors are more common in mods than in regular games, but they still are a fun way to kill time and try something different. In mods, you can choose from hundreds of themes that give the creeps plenty to do. The mod I’m talking about is called” Minecraft: The Monastery”, and it’s hosted by My Computer LAN Party. Here are some tips to help you get started with modding your server.
Get A Server – To get started with modding your server, you need a server of your own. There are literally thousands of scary servers out there, so you’re sure to find one to suit your needs. One thing to look for is a dedicated IP address. If you’re playing on a shared server, chances are someone on that server will be hosting a horror game. And when you’re playing on your own server… you don’t want anyone ogling over your shoulder! Dedicated IPs will keep prying eyes from seeing your server and your mod!
Get Books – You’ll need books on modding your horror game, as they will be the most important tools at your disposal. If you’re going to be doing more than just changing textures, that’s all fine and good, but there are certain things horror authors like to do. Some will make special rooms, like an ‘Abandoned Warehouse’ or ‘Abandoned Mineshaft’, that are terrifying in their own right. Others will have monsters spawn in certain areas of the map, and these are particularly terrifying. So if you’re making a horror map, make sure you know about these little things that will make your game truly scary.
Be creative – horror isn’t just about the creatures you kill them and then… leave them to rot. You can add blood, gore, monsters, props, and whatever else you can think of! Use the resources that are available online to help you create the most spine chilling scenes possible. When people say horror is all about the macabre, this is absolutely true!
Use Modding Tools – There are a huge amount of resources available for modders, both free and paid. You can use these to change the world around you, making it completely different from your last experience. Want to create a haunted house? That’s easy. Create a prison with no escape.
Learn From Past Experiences – Most of the best modders will tell you that the big thing for them was having the patience to learn from their past mistakes. This is the same principle when it comes to making a great horror game. Every time you make a mistake, try to learn from it and move on. Even when you’re not making a mod, consider what you’re doing wrong and how you can improve your craft. If you learn from your mistakes, you’ll be one step closer to making a terror game that will be remembered as one of the scariest experiences of your life!
