The Modern Skyblock Mod is a mod for Minecraft that completely overhauls the game. It features an almost complete overhaul of the game’s visuals, adding many hundreds of new things including skyboxes. This particular mod was created by an independent developer who released it on the 1st of January, 2021 and since then has become one of the most popular mods for Minecraft. I was able to get the hands-on test of the mod for myself and was able to see for myself the immense amount of improvements that it brings to the game.
When I say that the visual overhaul is immense, I mean literally and figuratively. The first thing I noticed when playing the mod was that the block textures were way more varied. There are all kinds of different clouds and rain effects that can be added to the game, and these can be adjusted in real time with the press of a button. You can also now see all the mobs that are around you and their health by the health bar on the top right-hand corner of your screen. In fact this mod even adds a new mini game to the game as well: mine cart racing!
Another great feature of this mod is that you no longer need to have the infamous Ender Chest to harvest materials. Instead you will automatically pick up any resources that you find. This helps to significantly speed up the game because you won’t have to waste time going back to the craft page to pick up some more wood or charcoal. Now you can just go pick it up with your bare hands!
The mod also comes with its own special edition. It is called the Modern Skyblock 3: Departed Mines Mod and features all the features mentioned above as well as several other ones that I haven’t gotten around to discover yet. The special edition also adds a new type of block that looks like a gray-scale version of a regular gravel. It is called gray brick and is used mainly for decorative purposes. Another nice addition is a new power up called the Skyward Mines. This lets you use items that fall into the air, including crops and naturally produced items, and then return them to their normal location when they are picked up.
I must say that this game can be very addictive. Once you start getting the hang of it, I just can’t stop myself from going back and doing everything again. However, there are some things you should do in order to prevent your Skyblock addiction from turning into a headache. One of those is to only keep one inventory file at a time. If you try to save a bunch of different versions of a game, you’ll find that your computer can only handle so many at once. This will slow down the game significantly.
My final thought for this Modern Skyblock 3: Departed Mines Mod review is this: If you love classic games like Modern Warfare or Manhunt, this is one of the best mods for you to get. It takes you on a mission in an alternate version of vanilla Skyblock. This doesn’t change the fact that it’s a bit of a hassle to get started (especially if you have no idea what you’re doing), but it ends up being much more fun than other similar mods. The graphics look great, the mod has all the familiar elements of the classic game, and it’s relatively easy to pick up, making it a must-have for any serious Call of Duty player.
