Minecraft PvP is a rapidly evolving aspect of the game that seems to get more complicated with each patch. As I’ve said many times before, I don’t really understand the need for PvP in this game. The idea of “PvE” and “RP” are much better than they are in Minecraft PvP. Let’s break it down to simple terms. You are not going to be playing against other players in Minecraft PvP; rather, you’ll be pitted against your computer. This is what “PvE” is all about – using your computer to fight against other players.
It may seem very complicated for a new player to understand, but once you understand the differences between “PvE” and “RP”, you will understand why so many Minecraft PvP players hate it. First, there are no teams; instead, you are all grouped together and play against each other. Secondly, in order to win, you must either have a group with specific roles or a specific goal.
So what are these goals? Well, some basic objectives are to get into the top 25% of your level, gather reputation with certain cities, guilds etc. Other objectives are earning player honor, mounts, weapons etc. Now, when you have specific objectives in mind, the game will force you to take action. Each player has a special objective they want to accomplish, and the system is designed to prevent a “one-person” syndrome from occurring – everyone will do their part.
In this new game, you have to be careful about what you say to other players. A “gossiping” type of behavior has been noted as being quite unsportsmanlike. Players are warned to be nice; otherwise, they will receive warnings or be banished from a server. It’s just one of those things.
On the plus side, it looks pretty slick. Your screen is filled with information and your back yard is filled with trees. It’s nice to have the world map at your fingertips, and even better to be able to turn off the computer while playing. The addition of chat rooms, hot spots, and forums adds to the new player experience. You can actually play the game online right now.
So, what’s the big deal? PvP is an amazing way to have an actual legitimate “war” with your fellow players. Since PvP matches happen within the same game (hence its synonym), each player is playing within the same rules and objectives. There are no distinguishable classes, no skill points or equipment that you need to buy, no special gear that you have to train for. So it’s just plain fun!
