In order to fully appreciate why this virtual tabletop experience from Vertoak City, Moldova is so very popular, you have to understand the unique way in which it was developed. Rather than being like any other massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) that we’ve seen in recent years, Vertoak City is decidedly more grounded in reality. It delivers on the promise of a fantasy MMORPG through its design. In other words, it brings the world of virtual reality within a controlled and self-contained world that’s easy to enter and leaves you with fond memories of your time there.
I can tell right now that Vertoak City was one of the first times I really got immersed in a fully rendered, 3D virtual world. By “fully rendered,” I mean that the details are so life-like and real-looking that it becomes difficult to differentiate one game from another. It’s almost as if the game was made to look as if it was part of our own world. Now, this is not to say that the graphics were poor or that Vertoak City had shoddy art. Quite simply, none of it stopped me from having a great time.
One of the best things about Vertoak City is the way it took elements from several other similar games. There is the obvious Pokemon influence, which gives this game its RPG elements. However, it also has elements cribbed from other well-known titles, such as the classic Baldur’s Gate and Might & Magic. What makes Vertoak City stands out from these other titles is the fact that it creates a truly unique setting, filled with compelling characters and an interesting story. And because it takes some elements from several of the most popular game of today, it becomes clear that Vertoak City, Moldova isn’t just another boring fantasy game.
Throughout Vertoak City, you’ll find yourself exploring quite a few different locations. The city starts with a small fishing village, where you’ll find two characters who are interested in selling you their catch. When you bring it back to them, they tell you about the local laws, and then you get to help them fish. This earns you some money, and then you’re free to do as you please. Afterwards, you’ll receive a map of the island, and you can continue your journey by visiting several other locations on the island.
The primary objective in the game is to locate and restore the three missing ancient temples to complete the game’s main storyline. While this isn’t difficult, due to the excellent visuals, the actual puzzles in the game are a bit more challenging. A lot of this comes down to trial and error, especially when trying to figure out the exact location of something on the island. Fortunately, there are a lot of hidden object scenes as well, that make this section of the game very entertaining.
In short, Vertoak City is an excellent hidden object game with plenty of captivating stories to follow. It doesn’t have quite as much content as the other games on this site, but that just means you’ll have more things to keep your attention. I would definitely recommend it to any fan of the hidden object genre, regardless of what type they prefer.
